Diesel Generator Installed at new Kings Cross Development

18th May 2021

Product: 200kVA Perkins Diesel Generator

Location: Kings Cross, London.

Purpose: Back up power

YorPower have recently supplied and installed a 200kVA Perkins Diesel Generator at the Rolling Stock Yard in London. After wining the project in a competitive tender, YorPower were excited to begin working on the project, which is a part of the major Kings Cross Development.

What once was underused industrial wasteland, the Kings Cross Development is now becoming 67 acres of new homes, shops, restaurants, bars and even schools – all with a brand-new postcode.

The Kings Cross Development in numbers:

  • 67 acres
  • 50 new buildings
  • 1,900 new homes
  • 20 new streets
  • 10 new public parks and squares
  • 26 acres of open space
  • 42,000 people by 2022

As well as the above, the new development will include luxury offices where YorPower have installed the Diesel Generator at roof level. The Rolling Stockyard is said to be a new destination for creative enterprises which offers 57,600 sq ft of office and light industrial space.

As with all offices, The Rolling Stockyard required back-up power in case of power failure, which could cost the tenants untold downtime and losses This is where YorPower’s expertise in generator supply and installation came in.

The generator was installed on top of the roof, meaning the installation and configuration would be a challenge. After lifting the 2.3 tonne genset onto the roof via a crane, the automatic fuel system was fitted which included a 24-hour bulk tank that will deliver fuel automatically to the generator through a fuel transfer pump system. The generator was also fitted with full automatic controls including BMS and Modbus signalling.

YorPower Managing Director, Ian Thompson said:

“ This is a great little project and one of three installations we have carried out on this development since it started. Whilst not a large installation, it was quite complex in terms of fuel installation because the pipe route was pretty convoluted. That said, our team managed the works in conjunction with on site main contractor extremely well and the generator now resides on top of the building ready to be commissioned.”

Commissioning is due to take place within the next few months, but YorPower are proud to have worked on The Rolling Stockyard project, as well as other key projects in the Kings Cross Development include the Gas Holder Triplets, which are due to be converted into new apartments… Keep an eye out for an update on that project!
